About the Author

Jillian Anselmi resides on Long Island, (not in Long Island), with her husband and teenage daughter. She studied pharmacy, but decided it wasn't the right fit for her and instead pursued a degree in chemistry. After receiving her masters in education she pursued a career in teaching, but there was always something missing. As a young girl she read an incredible amount of books, reading over a hundred during the summer of her third grade year. After that she would write poetry or dabble in short stories. Now, she writes romantic fiction, with some small amount of truth hiding behind her words. If you want to make her happy, surprise her with dark chocolate, a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato, or a good Sauvignon Blanc.

Interview

What inspired you to become an author?
I've always had the itch to write.  When i was in elementary school, I would write poetry and short stories.  As i got older, the voices in my head got louder, and i finally got the nerve to put them on paper.

I assume all authors also love to read, so what book inspired your love of reading?
That's a tough question.  I read almost all genres.  I would have to say The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis.

How old were you when you wrote your first story?
Short story, i was probably 8 or 9

Who are some of your favorite authors now?
Even though i write romance, i love a good military story.  Tom Clancy and Lee Child are among my favorites.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Hmmmm.  If i had to pick, i would be a pantser but i'm more a combination of the two.  I start out with a general outline, and as i start to write things evolve and change.

Are your characters based on people you know?
YES!  Drawn to You is 60% truth.  Obviously the names have been changed to protect the guilty, but i do tend to write from life experiences.

What are some of your writing rituals?
Starbucks Caramel Macchiato.

How do other books influence your writing?
I try not to read while i write, i don't want to get someone else's idea in my head.  That being said, there is always a book that i'll read after and say, "That was brilliant!  Why didn't i think of that."

How do you get motivated to sit down and write with all the real world interruptions?
It's hard to sit down and get any alone time, when you're married and have a teenage girl vying for your attention.  Usually I write when the voices are telling me to.

Which one of your books is your favorite?
Lately, it's been the Consequences series by M. Never.

If you could have a writing retreat anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be and why?
Ohhhh.  Anywhere tropical.  I love writing to the sound of the ocean waves, it's very soothing.

If your main character were an alcoholic beverage, which beverage would they be and why?
Olivia would be a Sauvignon Blanc.  She drinks enough of it, that she could actually turn into a bottle.  That white wine isn't expensive, yet it's classy just like Liv.

If you could live in a fictional world, which world would you choose and why?
I would love to live in Hogwarts.  The whole wizardry experience seems really fun.

What’s the best way to hide a body?
Dissolving with Lye (Sodium Hydroxide) - it's the Chemist in me :)
